The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
(Though I am only focusing on one verse, I encourage you to read all of chapter 1!)
Often when we make decisions, we ask God to give us wisdom, the ability to act appropriately and compassionately according to what we already know. According to verse 7, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Therefore, we can’t have wisdom without knowledge, and we can’t have knowledge without the fear of the Lord.
We need wisdom to make decisions and carry out God’s work on earth. Let’s strive to fear God–love, serve, worship, and revere Him. Let’s seek to please and glorify Him in all that we do.
Lord, thank you that you are wise and all-knowing. Thank you for your Truth that reminds me of my need of you. Teach me how to rightfully fear you so that I might gain knowledge and wisdom. Thank you for your love and grace that pursues me even when I am undeserving. I stand in awe of you. Help me to surrender my heart to you and to put you first in everything. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
